over clocking CPU how ??

my pc is bit slow, somewhere is net i read that it can be optimized via overclocking , but i am not able to find nice easy to understand guide.
I will be gratefull if some one show me correct way.
and also tell a brief about it's disadvantage ( if any ).

over clocking is dangerous it might damage your kernel

you must know the basic clocking

Be sure to run stress tests as well to make sure your system can handle it (eg CPU-z)
